Emergence

The world is changing, strange individuals are being born with powers they barely understand. These individuals are the heralds of a new and strange age. Magic is emerging in the world and these are the stories of the first practitioners who discover the many uses of these magical abilities.

Emergence is a project close to my heart. An urban fantasy setting where magic is new. Not some ancient and lost art or some hidden secret (kind of). Instead, we get to see a world like our own deal with the sudden emergence of magic as it happens.

This project is planned to be a series of short stories that detail the first people on the world to discover and utilise magic. Most of them use it unconsciously and the tolls it can take on them are devastating. Set in the backdrop of a world already plagued by political and military uncertainty, the introduction of magic rocks the world.

The plan for Emergence started out as a series of short pieces but has become a bit bigger than I had originally scoped. The current planned product is in flux as the world and stories get fleshed out but current ideas are that it might become a book (or several), an interactive website with many forms of media, a serial project with episodic releases or all of the above.
